Trim Levels (Exterior)
Like most Ford Super Duty trucks, the 2021 F-150 comes in six trims: XL, XLT, Lariat, King Ranch, Platinum, and Limited. You get the choice of the regular, crew cab (SuperCrew), and extended cab (SuperCab) styles, and up to three bed lengths. SuperCab trucks feature a 170-degree rear door. A moonroof comes standard on the Limited trim with SuperCrew. Lighting options include standard halogen headlamps and taillamps.
On the XL, you'll get standard 17-inch silver steel wheels, with the option of silver-painted aluminum wheels of the same diameter. The latter come standard on the XLT trim. For 22-inch polished aluminum wheels, get the Limited trim.
Engine (Power)
The F-150 is powered by any of six engines. On the XL and XLT, you get a 3.3-liter V-6 engine with twin independent variable cam timing (Ti-VCT). This engine produces 290 horsepower and 265 pound-feet of torque. The Lariat comes with a turbocharged 2.7-liter V-6 EcoBoost that makes 325 horsepower and 400 pound-feet of torque. You'll get even more power in the King Ranch and Platinum trims, thanks to a 5.0-liter V-8 engine that makes 400 horsepower and 410 pound-feet of torque.
The Limited is equipped with a 3.5-liter EcoBoost engine that makes 400 horsepower and 500 pound-feet of torque. A hybrid powertrain is available across all trims — it's a 3.5-liter PowerBoost that delivers 430 horsepower and 570 pound-feet of torque. A 3.0-liter 250-horsepower engine is also optional on all but the Limited trim. Every engine features auto start-stop technology and is mated to a 10-speed automatic transmission.
Performance
You have the option of rear-wheel or four-wheel drive on the F-150. The King Ranch's V-8 has a best-in-class payload capacity of 3,325 pounds, and the Limited can tow up to 14,000 pounds with its V-6 engine. The diesel engine comes close, towing up to 12,100 pounds.
Choose from up to seven selectable drive modes: Normal, ECO, Slippery, Deep Sand/Snow, Mud/Rut, Tow/Haul, and Sport. Standard trailer sway control helps your truck and trailer stay stable, while the available electronic rear-locking differential can provide enhance traction on and off the road.
